Hey guys I'm up on the Blogger with another art journaling page featuring one of KCS Designs by Kim images. I am in love with this collection and so lucky to be part of her DT! Here is a link to her shop to check out all of her fantastic images and backgrounds.
The Wistful Petals Journal Papers is one of my favorite collections from her shop. I started out with an insert from my journal page, it's 140lb A5 paper with pre-cut holes that fits perfectly into my art journal. I purchased off Amazon (link here, no affiliate - if you are looking for journaling pages that take wet and dry medium fabulously, this is it)!
I started off with a stencil and used a very light hand with some CTMH ink in the color of JOURNEY. I wanted to pull just a little bit of the blue in her eyes out onto the page. I then inked the background with some distressed oxides in SCATTERED STRAW.
I just got some new background stamps from Amazon and wanted to use them with a few of my older stamps I have in my stash. One of them is a HERO ARTS stamp set...that sun and title was perfect for this page!
After stamping up the background I wanted to add the look of newspaper print or book print. I have an old dictionary, that I've had laying around for YEARS...it was my dad's. I was torn on whether to use it or not but it was just collecting dust and he was so talented in the every aspect of art so me using this feels like part of him is with me and he wouldn't mind, so I tore a page out of it starting with the word BEAUTY. I tore it in 3 separate sections and layered it out on my page. I was trying not to cover up all the background work I did but sometimes that just happens and that's ok.
I printed out the image I chose from Kim's collection onto rice paper and fussy cut it. I then adhered it to a 65lb white card stock to give it a little bit more structure. When I use wet glue on my images I use the glue on the back AND the front and when I do that with rice paper it makes the image more contrasting with the colors which is why I didn't just print it on the 65lb paper to begin with.
I reached into my smaller paper pads and found a coordinating color that seemed to match her flowers. I added a white along with a FRENCH WINE color acrylic paint to come up with a color I felt wasn't too light or too dark in order to pull out some of the other colors in the image. I added some brush strokes of color to the paper let it dry and die cut some flowers. I then reached into my collection of threads and pulled out my BLACK thread and added it to the middle of the flower. I wanted to blend in some of the wispiness of her hair and the black sketch lines of the flowers in her hair and I think it worked.
Finally, I adhered all the flowers down and then popped the image up on some foam tape and called it done! I am not mad at it!!
Thanks for hanging out with me today and don't forget to head over to KCS Designs by Kim and check out her shop. I hope I inspired you to get into your crafty space and be creative today!
Stay Crafty,
Kimberly
