Tip Day Tuesday - Kits vs Stashes

Good morning guys! Guess what day it is...It's TIP DAY TUESDAY🤗
This weeks Tip Day Tuesday is all about Kits VS Stashes.
I’m not going to lie, when I recently got into scrapbooking again (my neighbor in Fl got me into it about 8 years ago…we did 1 album together…it took a year…and I learned a lot from her! But, in 8 years a LOT has changed in the Scrapbooking world! I went from ripping pages and adding some embellishment- mostly stickers - and a lot of cricut cutting with the first cricut machine (which is a dinosaur now but hey it still works)!
Now there are new fancy words (fussy cutting? Ephemera??) and new mixed media (embossing! Stamping, Cricut Air, oh my)! So when I recently discovered Kits I was blown away (of course I didn’t discover this until AFTER I grew my stash). I mean KITS😱 They put everything together for you with all the matched embellishments and stickers and EPHEMRA, you just create your layout and to really kick into OMG mode! There are even KIT CLUBS where you automatically get a kit every month! (insert HAPPY face here). I just discovered the HIP KIT CLUB GROUP....B-E-A-U-T-I-F-U-L kits!
Me, I have what’s called a STASH. Where I went into different stores at different times and bought papers (either specialty patterns (think soccer or Walt Disney) or a ream of 50 sheets of solid colors and recently white paper stock, along with Alpha’s, chipboard stickers, rub ons, stickers. I have boxes full of different manufactures (think Pink Paslee, Vicki Boutin, Amy Tangerine).
So basically the difference between a STASH and a KIT is the kit contains all your color coordinated papers, matching embellishments and some even include mixed media (think paint and stencils) sets for you to go to town with.
Your STASH is a collection of odds and ends (hopefully mostly sale items…lol) that you have to put a little more thought into when it comes to creating your page.
So there you have it…Tip Day Tuesday! Happy Scrapping Newbies!
And don’t for get to come join us on our Facebook page to post what you are working on! We love to see it!

Merry Christmas (paper tree #1) - Layout #20 of the 365 scrapbook challenge and what lessons I learned with this layout

Hey Newbies,

I'm here working on number 20 of my 365 Page Layout Challenge 2019 (and the lessons I learned).  I will try to list everything I used below and try to link up to where you can purchase them if you happen to like any of them.

I'm here working on something I "lifted" (ha! that's a term we scrapbookers use for using someone else' layouts).  This particular layout I found on YouTube by Vicki Parker (click here to watch it).

She used a Hip Kit Club December Kit (to find out more about these awesome kits click here.  I loved the way she made the tree out of various papers cut in 1" strips.  So I decided to myself, self, this seems to be pretty easy and looks fabulous so why not try it!

So I began with the white card stock like she did.  I then picked out all of the papers I wanted to use (I am not a member of the Hip Kit Club (yet) because I have a TON of paper in my stash and want to use some of it up before joining).  That being said, I didn't use any of the papers she did.

I began to lay them out like she did, and it looked pretty good.  I was envious of her papers but mine weren't so bad.  I added the BEST WISHES as the trunk and the tree was complete!

Now, here comes LESSON 1 for this layout...how to hide things you put on a layout that just doesn't look good.  In her video, Vicki added splatters.  Now, if you have never used splatters before there is a bit of a technique to it.  I mean you would think it would be so simple, THEY ARE SPLATTERS for crying out loud!  But they can get away from you and in this case it looked more like a bloody crime scene than a Merry Christmas scene😱

After I splattered the green and red it really looked like a bloody mess and once it's down, it's down.  So, LESSON 1, how I covered them up!  I started by stamping snowflakes all over the place and that didn't quite do it, so then I started adding stickers everywhere.  I mean, snowflake stickers, mitten stickers, stocking stickers and finally...the bloody mess was gone!  So...if you make a mistake and you've gone too far to turn back now...cover that sh*t up!

After I finished cleaning up "the scene", I added the photo by backing it in red and gold foil paper and then added the MERRY CHRISTMAS, which wasn't meant for scrapbooking but I used it anyway and it looked pretty good (so, we will call that LESSON #2 for this layout).  They are actually window jelly clings that you use to decorate your windows with during the holiday.  Here may be LESSON #3 for this layout...you might now want to use something this red and green on a white background...this material tends to run so some of the wording is now a bit more colorful around the actual letters🤦🏻‍♀️.  Maybe on a colored background or maybe not at all...just saying...

Well, there you have it...number 20 of my 365 layout challenge for 2019.  Thanks for following along on my journey of 365 scrapbook page challenge that I am doing, and reading about the lessons I'm learning along the way!

Hip Kit Club January Challenge

Hey there Newbies!  Today I completed a layout challenge from the Hip Kit Club and wanted to share it with you.

I like doing challenges with the Hip Kit Club because they don't require you to use any of their products (which I'm finding out a lot of others do).  I just so happen to have some of their products...Christmas Sales make me so happy🤗

Here is what the layout challenge looked like.

For this challenge I used this adorable photo of my grand daughter and myself when she was just a couple of months old.  She totally has my heart💜

When I do challenges, (especially LAYOUT challenges) I like to stick to pretty much the EXACT layout.  You might think that is odd for me to say but I see scrapers do layout challenges that doesn't look anything like the layout that was presented.

I started off with some card stock paper from my stash.  It's a very pretty, light lilac color and matched perfectly with her little stockings and bow.  I backed the picture with another very light green color that matched her, oh so cute outfit! I also glued a foam backing onto the photo to give a little dimension to the layout.  I used some of the scrap left over from backing my photo to cut these adorable flowers and made some tags to add a bit of color.  Yes, I am a big believer in keeping 99.9% of my scraps.  You can use them for other things and we all know... this isn't a cheap hobby.

This Washi tape was also in my fairly new stash I just purchased a few weeks ago and I L-O-V-E it!  The "HELLO" on it went beautifully with my title, "hello sunshine"!
I happen to have bought some stuff from the Hip Kit Club over the Holidays (can you say SALE!) and used some of the ephemera packs from PinkFresh Studios and the Vicki Boutin collection.  The "So Lovely" and "Sunshine" have gold foil accents on them and you know me and bling/shinny things.  You just can't have enough bling!
I also added 2 foam dots to the "Hello Sunshine" to give it the same height dimension as the photo.
On the green flowers, that I cut myself with my cricut, I added black brads from BoBunny.  To finish it off  I added the 'SMILE'  epoxy  flair from ScrappinHappyStudio!

Thanks for joining me on this January Challenge from the Hip Kit Club!  I hope you liked it.   Come join us on our Facebook page ScrapbookingForNewbies.  It's all about sharing your creations, learning new techniques and doing some challenges (and you don't have to be a Newbie to join us...we love to have experts on our page to guide us through all that this scrapbooking world has to offer!)  We love giving shout outs to you guys!

Happy Scraping!
