Reading is an Adventure - featuring Color Cast products

Hi guys, I'm here working on my next layout with an amazing cut file of a book which I couldn't wait to get to go with my Color Cast Design's super thin wood veneers! I also had some cute flairs from Scrappin Happy Studio that were made for this layout.

I started this layout using a 12x12 blush color card stock. I had just gotten a cut file of a book and decided to use it for this layout.   I backed it with card stock that had words on it to give it that book feel.  I dug into my Color Cast design stash and pulled out my wood veneers. They have this Book Collection and it was perfect!  These veneers are super thin, so no bulkiness; they have a sticky back to them so easy to peel and stick to your layout and they are in a perfect size and shape for any layout!

After picking through the ones I wanted to use, I moved on to picking the flairs from the Book Collection at Scrappin Happy Studio.  Thses were perfect and also on the thin side (not like the medal buttons that bulk up your layouts). I grabbed a few more embellishments and used my Sizzix Die Cut machine to cut the alphas out.  These alphas are perfect size for any layout (purchased from Amazon).

I then backed my photo with 2 different color card stock, added some foam adhesive to some of the embellishments and then stamped the stitching on the side.  Look, I couldn't sew a button on an ice cream cone so these Bo Bunny stitching stamps are the next best thing!

So there you have it!  A quick and super cute layout of my granddaughter reading her book (even if it is upside down🤷🏻‍♀️).

Thanks for taking the time to read about this layout and the products I used.  Please come follow me on IG (ScrapbookingForNewbies) or on FB (ScrapbookingForNewbies)

Senior Picture 8 x 8 layout Book, #48 - 56 of the 365 scrapbook challenge and what lessons I learned with this layout

Hi Newbies,

I'm here working on an 8 x 8 album for my Nephew who is graduating from High School.  This album is so near and dear to my heart because he is Autistic and the struggles my sister had and still has with him are real!  So I wanted to make her a special album to remember his special day.

This album holds 20 pages so I thought I would do 10 pages for one blog and the remaining 10 for another blog just so it's not too overwhelming for anyone to read.

This album will be layouts #48 - 56  of my 365 page layout challenge for 2019!- and yes I do include cards and 8x8 albums as well as my usual 12 x 12 layouts as part of my layout challenge, and FILLER pages (something new I'm doing for this album since I only have 11 pictures) - -just saying😬

I will try to link all of the items used (and possibly where I bought them) just in case you decide you like any of it.  Since this entire album is an 8x8 album there aren't a lot of embellishments that I used.

After the first 8x8 album I did a couple of weeks ago, I lost my fear of doing them and kinda liked it.  I would NOT say they were easier, I mean you are trying to create an awesome layout with embellishments and stickers and stamps and sequence and heat embossing and...well you get it.  On the 8x8's you are very limited on space to create such an amazing layout, especially if the pictures are bigger than 4x6.

For this album I had to try something a little different.  Since the album itself holds 20 layouts, I only had 11 pictures that my sister had sent to me for his photo shoot.  So I had to come up with some filler pages.  Basically, a scrapbook layout without a photo.  I've never done one before so it was fun to do.

SO HERE THEY ARE:

STICKERS:THE "WOOHOO!" and the Grad hat came from Paper Crafts (Hobby Lobby)
BLACK DOTS: Ms. Sparkle & Co, Joann's

Puffy Heart Shaker Card, #47 of the 365 scrapbook challenge and what lessons I learned with this layout

Hi Newbies,

I'm here working on #47 of my 365 page layout challenge for 2019!  - and yes I do include cards and 8x8 mini albums as part of my layout challenge - -just saying😬

I will try to link all of the items used (and possibly where I bought them) just in case you decide you like any of it.

I've been seeing all of these shaker cards and decided that I wanted to try to make one.  Well...this layout will have a lot of lessons in it🤦🏻‍♀️

First I want to start off by saying the card makers that make these cards have tremendous talent!  I am in awe of the beautify they create and how easy they make it look...it's not.  You would think making a card would be but, IT IS NOT!

This shaker card turned out to be an inside out shaker card.  I mean, who makes those? 🙋🏻‍♀️  This girl right here does.  Why?  Because when you have used all of the materials up to a certain point and then realize this is all wrong, you are not going to waste all of that money those materials cost and toss it.  So LESSON #1, even if it doesn't work one way, make it work another (and save those materials).

I started out with a pre-made card already scored in plain white.  I wanted to make a card to send to my sister and she LOVES hearts.  I have this awesome heart die that I don't use that often but I love the way it looks so I decided I would be different and use this intricate die to make a shaker card...and here comes LESSON #2, the words "intricate" and "shaker" should not be used in the same sentence.  The "shaker" part of the card needs to have room for the bits to...SHAKE🤦🏻‍♀️

I started off using some Shimmerz SPRITZ, in COTTON CANDY on the white card stock to give it some color and I loved the way that looked.  The shimmer to it was gorgeous!  I some how managed to mess up the fold on the pre-scored card by running it through my Big Shot so I had to be creative and use Washi tape to hide it...and here is LESSON #3, make a mistake, try to cover it up before tossing it and starting over.  This worked, the colors, the design...it all worked for this card so I went with it.

I always like trying to be different and decided that I would cut the heart die again but this time out of adhesive foam that I have in this amazing pink (see the theme here).  I couldn't believe that my Big Shot cut it...who knew (apparently everyone because it says that it cuts different material right on the directions on how to use it).  I was super excited!

I then opened the card and added the foam strips (like I've seen all the YouTube how to make a shaker card tell you to do).  After that, I placed the foam hearts into the die cut I made on the front of the card and it fit perfectly.  Once that was in it wasn't coming out and that's when it hit me...those bits were not going to shake at all in those hearts.

So now I have used some Shimmerz SPRITZ, Washi Tape, die cut the card, die cut my pink foam adhesive (purchased from Michaels.com) and had already gone through my stash  (some Vicki Boutin, ephemera pack and some Ink Road Stamps sequence), and pulled what I was going to use and even heat embossed some vellum with one of my Stamps from the set HAND MADE ESSENTIALS that I got from scrapbook.com (that was a freebie that you had to be at the right time and place to get because they went fast....LESSON #4,  follow some of your favorite scrapbooking and card making companies on IG and FB because they love to do giveaways)!

I was at a cross roads.  What to do, what to do...through all of it out, waste my materials and time it took and start all over?  I decided to continue instead of tossing it.

I had already put the foam tape on the inside and there was no getting that off without tearing the card so I put a backing on from a scrap piece of card stock that matched the pinks on the front (it would be showing through the front hearts die cut).

After that I was still wanting to make this a shaker card, I mean come on, I had went out and bought some bits and sequence and really wanted to try this so I went for it... just on the inside instead of the outside.   I mean when she opens the card...SURPRISE!  Shakers!! Who wouldn't love that!  So I guess this would be LESSON #5 (I told you there were a lot of lessons with this one), just because something is suppose to be made one way, switch it up and make it your way.  No rules...just creativity!  So GO FOR IT!

I followed the directions from some of the YouTube videos and went for it and it worked!  However,  and here comes LESSON #6 for this work of art...make sure you like your background BEFORE you start finishing up the card.

After I made the shaker part successfully, I hated the all white background so I started trying to fix it with a Wonky frame cut from pink scrap I had left over and using Nuvo Embellishing Mousse in Peony Pink I had gotten from Sparklensprinkle.net.  Let me tell you how hard it is to try to use Mousse when you have something you don't want the Mousse on.  I had to cover each side as I used the Mousse and try to get all the white covered.  As you can tell not only did I not get all the white covered...the Wonky frame I tried to use to cover the Shaker part up didn't quite make it around the entire shaker part.  Ugh!

But, seriously I couldn't stop now!  So I stamped the other side with pink ink from Ranger and a really old block stamp I had and really liked it...except for the all white back ground so I got creative with some Lemon Sorbet Nuvo Mousse  PURPOSELY leaving some white around the wording because I liked that look.

I added the hearts that came out of the die (which is one reason I love this die, not only do you get the see through hearts, you get the cut out ones to use as well).

Well, it may not be perfect but it was made with love!

There you have it...number 47 of my 365 layout challenge for 2019.  Thanks for following along on my journey of 365 scrapbook page challenge that I am doing, and reading about the lessons I'm learning along the way!

It's the Little Thinks in Life - Layout #26 of the 365 scrapbook challenge and what lessons I learned with this layout

Hey Newbies,

I'm here working on number 26 of my 35 Page Layout Challenge 2019 (and the lessons I learn).  I will try to link up to where you can purchase the items I used just in case you see anything you might like to try!

Today I'm working on "IT'S THE LITTLE THINGS IN LIFE".  This one I didn't use many embellishments.  Some times I use a tone and some times I hardly use any at all.  It depends on which way the layout starts going (or the wind is blowing, which ever).  I mean I can pull a LOT of stuff from my drawers and only end up using a few things like I did with this one.  I wanted the paper to do all of the talking with this layout!

I started out using a pad from the HOT BUYS from Michael's.  HOT BUYS are awesome and they have them every quarter it seems.  You can get beautiful pads for $5.99, regularly $19.99!  I kick myself because this one I L-O-V-E and I only bought one.  I find that going back during another HOT BUY, you don't find the same pads 😒.  So we will use this as LESSON #1, look through those HOT BUY pads you like and take a good look.  Shop around and then re-look.  If you really like it...BUY MORE THAN ONE!

Ok, moving on...I started with one of the 12x12 sheets that has this amazing floral print at the bottom.  Now, for me to say amazing and floral in the same sentence you have to know it is gorgeous because I'm really not a flowery type of girl.  I see all these amazing flowery layouts on IG but I just can't seem to get excited about doing one.  Maybe one day I will but not today.

This one was the perfect color, almost a paper bag brown with white flowers and stems at the bottom that was just enough to make it gorgeous!  There was another page in the pad that is a blueish grey that I had left over from another layout I did.  I did the tear technique (making sure I left it longer at the bottom so it peaked out.  I took another piece of scrap paper in yellow, and cut it at an angle and glued it to the top of it.

This pad also had 2 pages of cards (think, project life type cards) in the same hues as the paper.  I used one that had gold flakes in it to layer on top of the yellow card stock and then another I trimmed to layer on top of that one and used it as my Title.  So here is LESSON #2 for this layout, you don't always have to use alphas as your TITLE.  Here I am using a card that already had the saying I wanted.  You can use a sticker, project life card, a stamp...get creative!

I decided to do some gold splatters to bring out some of the gold in that first card.  I used Shimmerz VIBEZ in GLORIOUS DAY.  It really matched up well and who doesn't love a good shimmer!

I cut 3 flags in the blue/grey and one in yellow and adhered them under the 1st layer.  I added 2 more smaller flags in a white/grey color for some pop and to bring in the white from those flowers below.

I have this really awesome butterfly bunch so I punched out some butterflies trying to get some of the gold flakes from the paper in order to bring in some more of the gold accent.  I placed them where I wanted them and used tacky glue to glue them down.  They give a 3 dimensional look to the page that I liked.

I added a wood sticker that says Happy Days Are Here (that's an old piece from my stash) and then added a gold foil flag and stamped TODAY on it and placed it by the photo.  On the photo itself, I backed it with the same papers I used on the other side, leaving a little over hang at the bottom using the tear technique again and added the LIFE IS SHORT, LIVE IT  chipboard sticker from American Crafts - Thickers line, Escape The Ordinary by Vickie Boutin and added 2 butterflies.

Above the photo I added another card from the pad and backed it with a gold foil card and a lighter card on the other side to bring out those lighter colors.

I felt like it needed a little something else so I added stamped dots in different sizes.  Lastly, I added a flair from Scrappin Happy Studios that says "US".

Well, there you have it...number 26 of my 365 layout challenge for 2019.  Thanks for following along on my journey of 365 scrapbook page challenge that I am doing, and reading about the lessons I'm learning along the way!

Sweet Moment - Layout #24 of the 365 scrapbook challenge and what lessons I learned with this layout

Hey Newbies!

I'm here working on my 365 Page Layout Challenge.  I will try to list everything I used below and try to link up to where you can purchase them if you happen to like any of them.

Today I am working on a layout I call SWEET MOMENTS.  This one is especially close to my heart because it's a picture of me and my granddaughter reading "THE LITTLEST ANGEL", the exact book I saved that I use to read to her daddy when he was just about her age.

I'm not going to lie, this layout took me a while due to the colors I was mixing.  It looks like a simple layout but I wanted all of the colors to blend with the paper I used on the background so it was trial and error.

Which brings me to LESSON #1, if it doesn't work the first time or second time or third time, try, try again!  That particular blue/purple I was trying to pull from the lights of the tree was tricky.

I started out with the awesome periwinkle blue card stock I had.  I layered it with a 12x12 acetate sheet with words on it.  I saw it at Michael's and thought it would be different to use and I loved the way it looked.  It's from their Recollections collection called Signature Especial.

The wording was perfect and it really popped on top of the blue background.  I have never used this type of paper before...and here comes LESSON #2 for this layout.  Adhering acetate paper is tricky and I'm sure I didn't use the correct adhesive but when I stuck it down using my crafters tape you could see it.  Luckily, I was smart enough to just do a small amount on each of the 4 corners.  The top was an easy fix because of the border I put up there but the bottom, not so much.  So I had to cover the one corner with the trees...the other corner I couldn't find anything that looked right so, for this lesson..make sure you know your material before starting a layout.

After I glued down the paper I decided where I wanted my pictures and how I wanted to back them.   I found this awesome silvery, iridescent paper at Michael's.  It was beautiful and I wish I would have bought more of it.  I backed both of my photos with it and set them aside.  I wanted to pull a little red out of the Christmas tree in the photo so I used my Fancy Pants Glitter Cut Flurry of Hearts I had gotten from Scrapbooking-for-less.com It pulled out just enough of the red and the purple, so I just let enough peek through to add a splash of those colors.

I adhered the photos down, one straight on the background and the other with foam dots to give a dimensional look.  I added the word LOVE from Thickers Skyler collection.  The word "BELIEVE" I have had in my stash for a while and have no idea where I got it.  I also used the words "SWEET MOMENT" for the Title from Amy Tangerine.

The Title words are white foam so it took me a while to match the colors using Nuvo Mica Mists in  NEBULA BLUE and some of my Radiant Pearls in WILD ORCHID.  The colors matched perfectly so I did this with the angel border (that I made using white card stock and an embossing tool with an Angel playing a trumpet) at the top as well.  I also loved the color so much that I did the trees in the corner.  They came as plain wood veneer and this color worked out well.

I did some journaling on my computer and printed in out on clear labels and stuck it to the scrap of that awesome silver radiant paper I used to back the photos.  I also used it with one of my Spellbinders Nestabilities Scored and Pierced Squares Etched Die frames to make the cute frame at the top and added a sticker that says "YOU MAKE MY HEART SO HAPPY".

The remainder of that paper was punched into 2 circles where I put flairs on top to really make them pop.  I special ordered one of those flairs that says "OMA LOVE" (she calls me Oma).  I get most of my flairs from Scrappin Happy Studios who did this special order for me (I have a few more in different colors and different sayings).  So if you want to really make a special layout, don't hesitate to ask her for a special order!

I added a couple of more flairs, a black heart to pull some more of the black out, 2 small chipboard sticker hearts in red and a Christmas brad in red to pull some of the red out of the tree in the photo.
ITEMS USED:
  1. Epoxy flairs - OMA LOVE, CURRENTLY READING, TIME TO GET COZY AND READ Scrapping Happy Studio
  2. "Sweet Moments" foam writing - Amy Tangerine (love, love, love these.  They come white but you can color them any color you want to go with your layout!
  3. "This is my Story" puffy sticker - PinkFresh Studio
  4. Nuvo Mica Mist - NEBULA BLUE - Acherryontop.com
  5. "Remember This" sticker- American Craft Thickers- OneCanoetwo (Hazelwood collection)
  6. Silver iridescent paper - to back photo - Michael's
  7. Christmas Brad - Echo Park - ACherryontop.com
  8. Nestabilities Scored and Pierced Squares Etched Die - Scrapbook.com
  9. Acetate paper - Signature Especial - Michael's
  10. Fancy Pants flutter hearts - Scrapbooking-for-less.com
  11. "LOVE" - LOVE from Thickers Skyler collection

Well, there you have it...number 24 of my 365 layout challenge for 2019.  Thanks for following along on my journey of 365 scrapbook page challenge 2019 that I am doing, and reading about the lessons I'm learning along the way!

Shine On - Layout #25 of the 365 scrapbook challenge and what lessons I learned with this layout

Hey Newbies,

I'm here working on number 25 of my 365 Page Layout Challenge 2019 (and the lessons I learn).  I will try to link up to where you can purchase the items I used just in case you see anything you might like to try!

This  was another Challenge from the UK Facebook group I'm in.  The challenge was pretty specific: a first of something (baby, first time...) triangles, stencil and an unusual way of journaling.

I started off with a bright pink 12x12 card stock background.  I also have a pad with some unusual papers in them and this lime green with yellow splatters worked like a charm with this layout!  So I cut an inch from each side and adhered it to the pink 12 x 12 background.
I backed all of the photos with a thin piece of foam!  I've never done that before but I have a small stash of super thin foam sheets in these bright colors of yellow, green, pinks and blues.  So here is LESSON #1, think outside the box.  Who would have thought to use foam as a border around a photo?  I ended up doing a blue, green and yellow on the photos to pull the colors out and make them pop.  I used some foam dots on them to adhere to the background to give a bit of dimension.

For the use of triangles, I cut 3 triangles using some of the yellow thin foam and added some bright pink puffy stickers from My Mind's Eye PALM BEACH COLLECTION. I also used a rubber chips banner from PinkFresh Studio 's Dream On collection underneath one of the photos to add more triangles (be it upside down, they are still triangles😬) and some pink and gold triangles sticker from Bella Blvd.
I added some other puffy stickers from Bella Blvd (the LOVE circle, the multi colored flag and the SHINE ON, which I used for my TITLE).  And here comes LESSON #2 for this layout, you don't have to always use alphas for your title.  This puffy sticker worked great!  I've also used Stamps, Project Life Cards, cards from pads, you get the idea.  I added a glitter beach ball sticker from the SPLASH FUN collection, a chipboard BIG SMILES sticker from American Crafts, and a SO MUCH FUN sticker from Bella Blvd's MAKE YOUR MARK collection.  The OH HAPPY DAY clear sticker is from The Paper Studio AGEND 52 (Hoppy Lobby), the CUTE AS A BUTTON clear sticker is from The Paper Studio's Children Phrases sticker pack (Hobby Lobby) and the rainbow is from The Hip Kit Club ephemera pack.  The BE YOU (yellow and pink sticker) is from Dear Lizzy and finally the LIFE IS SWEET flair is from SCRAPPIN HAPPY STUDIO.

I then did my stenciling.  I have this stencil I purchased from Amazon with different words on it.  I chose the BE HAPPY because she is so happy in that pool at that moment!  I used embossing glue on my stencil and then used my Wendy Vecchi embossing powder in BUTTERCUP and heated with my heat gun.  I did this on a separate piece of scrap paper in green and then used foam dots to secure it to my background.

For the unusual journaling I decided to use the same thin foam sheets I had and wait for it...put it in my BIG SHOT die cutting machine with a square die that had and framed it!   I then took some clear stickers ran them through the printer and stuck them onto the yellow square.  I glued the square to my backing and it worked great!

Well there you have it! Number 25 of my 365 layout challenge for 2019.  thanks for following along on my journey of 365 scrapbook page challenge that I am doing, and reading about the lessons I'm learning along the way!  If you liked the blog please subscribe and follow me.

Paper Christmas Tree - redo - Layout #23 of the 365 scrapbook challenge and what lessons I learned with this layout

Hey Newbies,

I'm here working on number 23 of my 365 Page Layout Challenge 2019 (and the lessons I learned).  I will try to list everything I used below and try to link up to where you can purchase them if you happen to like any of them.

I decided to re-do the layout I did using Vicki Parker's YouTube inspired layout.  I didn't really like the way mine turned out due to the having to cover up the "bloody scene".  If you don't know what I'm talking about click here for my blog on that particular layout.

If you follow me you know I'm not a huge fan of a LOT of white space on my layouts.  I do them occasionally (when lifting layouts I like).   So I started this on a 12 x 12 heavy red card stock instead of the white like Vicki did.  I used the same paper pad for all of the papers I chose to cut for this layout (the 1st layout I did, I used a bunch of different scrap papers that didn't have the same theme).

I started by drawing a triangle on my paper.  From there I started at the bottom and worked my way up, gluing each 1" (or so, I mean you don't have to be perfect) piece.  I topped it with one of the bows from the borders I used (kinda perfect...a Christmas tree gift😀) I used a strip of a border (from same pad) that was black with gold circles, almost like a skirt.

I used some white splatters to add a bit of "snow" to the background.  I also used a snowflake stamp that I had to add additional snowflakes with some gold and white embossing powder (using my heat gun to emboss them).

This particular pad was from a HOT BUY from Michaels, (if you don't know what a HOT BUY is from Michael's you need to!  Their pads go from $19.99 to $5.99, so keep a look out for those deals)!  It is an awesome Christmas pad with lots of borders and cards.  One of the cards had "PEACE ON EARTH" on it so I started fussy cutting and glued it onto my background....AND here is LESSON #1 for this layout.  I stuck the wording on as PEACE EARTH ON....and posted it for the entire world to see🤦🏻‍♀️.  I swear I looked at that 100 times before I posted it but it still went out like that.  So this lesson is...check it 101 times before sending it out!  After it was pointed out to me I had to change it and luckily the pad had 2 of everything including this PEACE ON EARTH card.  I wasn't  able to lift the 2 that were in the wrong order without tearing them but again this pad had 2 of the same cards so I was able to fussy cut the last card and put them right.

This HOT BUY pad also had these cute Christmas tree ornaments so I fussy cut those as well (and if you follow my blog you know how much I just love fussy cutting...NOT).  I glued those down to the background and then went to work on my photo.

I printed out this adorable picture of my grand daughter with the cutest Santa outfit on (belt and all).  I backed the photo with black card stock and then I had this ribbon I got from an amazing haul from Joann's (everything was 90% off!).  IT WAS A SANTA BELT!  I mean come on, how cute is that!  So I cut a piece for the top and the bottom of the photo and left the sides with the black stock paper showing.  I used foam dots to adhere it to the background to give it some dimension and did my journaling all around the bottom fo the tree!

This one I like a little (ok, a LOT) better than the first.  It's super easy to do this layout and you can do 2 of them and they look entirely different (I'll include the 1st one I did below the picture of this one so you can see the difference).  I mean you could do a bunch of these and they would all have a different feel to them.

Santa Came - Layout #8 of the 365 scrapbook challenge and what lessons I learned with this layout

Hey Newbies,

I'm here working on number 8 of my 365 Page Layout Challenge 2019 (and the lessons I learned).  I will try to list everything I used below and try to link up to where you can purchase them if you happen to like any of them.

Today I'm working on a 12x12 Christmas layout.  It's an oldie but one of my favorite pictures of my son at Christmas, in his little feet-sy PJ's, so cute!

I started with a 12x12 Christmas paper from Lawn Fawn that I got from Acherryontop.com I know I have said it before but I have to say it again...all of these non-traditional Christmas colors that are out this year, I'm in love with!  Don't get me wrong, I love a good red and green Christmas but these colors this year are amazing!  Lawn Fawn had a pack that I fell in L-O-V-E with so I scooped them up.  This particular one has little tiny white snow flakes on a blue background.
I used the tear technique when backing my photo.  I like the look of it and use it on about half of my layouts that I do.  I had some scrapes left over from a previous layout using these papers and chose 2 more of Lawn Fawn's Christmas papers in those awesome non-traditional colors. I also used a piece left over and put it down about a 1/4 into my background just to give some more color to it.

I had these paper silver glitter snowflakes in my stash and decided to use a few of them.    The trees are made from a die that I got at Hobby Lobby using my Big Shot.  I used parchment paper (cutting it with the same die) and overlaid it to the top of the Christmas trees.

So, here is LESSON 1 for this layout.  Using parchment paper is cheap and looks kinda cool I think, but using adhesives on it is a bit tricky so I ended up using my Sharpie permanent marker in GOLD METALLIC to make "ornaments" on the tree to cover the adhesive up.  Easy, peasy....

I added some Echo Park sticky brads to the layout and I fussy cut a reindeer and a penguin from a Christmas note pad I had laying around the house and used my X-yron sticker maker to make them into stickers.  The colors work and they are Christmas characters🤗  Which brings us to LESSON #2 for this layout, just because it isn't "meant" for scrapbooking or bought in the scrapbooking isle doesn't mean you can't use it for scrapbooking!

I wanted to break up the color in that strip I laid down with the colored snowflakes so I added some tear drop shaped plastic rhinestones.  Here comes LESSON #3, after painstakingly glueing each and every one of those down, I didn't really like it...but I didn't hate it.  Since it was almost the last thing I did and I didn't absolutely hate it, I lived with it and didn't trash the entire layout.  So, if you DON'T ABSOLUTELY hate it, keep it, because this is not a cheap hobby!

Lastly, I used a cool script font from PinkFresh Studio to do the Title - SANTA CAME - (although it's hard to read the single letters and you almost have to guess at them, but once they are together they look amazing)!  I believe I picked those up from Michaels.

Merry Christmas (paper tree #1) - Layout #20 of the 365 scrapbook challenge and what lessons I learned with this layout

Hey Newbies,

I'm here working on number 20 of my 365 Page Layout Challenge 2019 (and the lessons I learned).  I will try to list everything I used below and try to link up to where you can purchase them if you happen to like any of them.

I'm here working on something I "lifted" (ha! that's a term we scrapbookers use for using someone else' layouts).  This particular layout I found on YouTube by Vicki Parker (click here to watch it).

She used a Hip Kit Club December Kit (to find out more about these awesome kits click here.  I loved the way she made the tree out of various papers cut in 1" strips.  So I decided to myself, self, this seems to be pretty easy and looks fabulous so why not try it!

So I began with the white card stock like she did.  I then picked out all of the papers I wanted to use (I am not a member of the Hip Kit Club (yet) because I have a TON of paper in my stash and want to use some of it up before joining).  That being said, I didn't use any of the papers she did.

I began to lay them out like she did, and it looked pretty good.  I was envious of her papers but mine weren't so bad.  I added the BEST WISHES as the trunk and the tree was complete!

Now, here comes LESSON 1 for this layout...how to hide things you put on a layout that just doesn't look good.  In her video, Vicki added splatters.  Now, if you have never used splatters before there is a bit of a technique to it.  I mean you would think it would be so simple, THEY ARE SPLATTERS for crying out loud!  But they can get away from you and in this case it looked more like a bloody crime scene than a Merry Christmas scene😱

After I splattered the green and red it really looked like a bloody mess and once it's down, it's down.  So, LESSON 1, how I covered them up!  I started by stamping snowflakes all over the place and that didn't quite do it, so then I started adding stickers everywhere.  I mean, snowflake stickers, mitten stickers, stocking stickers and finally...the bloody mess was gone!  So...if you make a mistake and you've gone too far to turn back now...cover that sh*t up!

After I finished cleaning up "the scene", I added the photo by backing it in red and gold foil paper and then added the MERRY CHRISTMAS, which wasn't meant for scrapbooking but I used it anyway and it looked pretty good (so, we will call that LESSON #2 for this layout).  They are actually window jelly clings that you use to decorate your windows with during the holiday.  Here may be LESSON #3 for this layout...you might now want to use something this red and green on a white background...this material tends to run so some of the wording is now a bit more colorful around the actual letters🤦🏻‍♀️.  Maybe on a colored background or maybe not at all...just saying...

Merry Christmas (House) - Layout #19 of the 365 scrapbook challenge and what lessons I learned with this layout

Hey Newbies,

I'm here working on number 19 of my 365 Page Layout Challenge 2019 (and the lessons I learned).  I will try to list everything I used below and try to link up to where you can purchase them if you happen to like any of them.

Today I'm working on a Christmas layout.  This one was pretty simple and quick to layout!  I was so excited about getting this MERRY CHRISTMAS HOUSE stencil at Joann's for 90%OFF!  It actually wasn't a stencil, it was backed to a 10x10 board.  I took it off the board and used it as a stencil and it worked PERFECTLY!  Here is a video of my haul from Joann's.

I started out with a red 12 x 12 card stock and then added a white card stock on top.   I cut an inch off each side so that the red cold show.  I then took the stencil and a Sharpie permanent marker in GOLD METALLIC,  followed all of the lines of the house and then colored in the MERRY CHRISTMAS.  It looked fabulous...if I do say so myself😋

I then sprits the snow flakes in Perfect Pearls Mist from Ranger in PERFECT COPPER to pull some of the gold out in the house and glued them down.  After that I backed the photo with some paper from my stash that had some gold(ish) color in it and then with some of the red stock paper I used earlier and adhered it down.
I had the JOY and the Christmas tree from a real old stash of mine, which worked great because the tree had the gold in it and the JOY had the red.

The Santa sticker I made using my X-yron sticker maker and the Santa I fussy cut from a Christmas note pad I had laying around my house. (Hey I always say, use what you can, and if it's free it's for me)!

I added some Christmas brads (one was a sticky brad but the other 2 were not, and I'm not a huge fan of the "not sticky" brads so I take off the metal parts some times - this being one of those times- and use a foam dot to adhere them).   I had some smaller red colored brads that I put down the side just to add color, used a border from one of my Christmas HOT BUY pads and Boom!  Done!  Super simple, super quick and super cute!

So LESSON 1 for this layout would be...use what you have that may not be meant for scrapbooking (think, the stencil house I pulled off the board, the Santa sticker I made from a note pad...what ever you think will work, try it, use it...just because it doesn't say "scrapbooking embellishment" doesn't mean you can't use it.😬
