Doodle's 1st baby album- Layouts #27-46 of the 365 scrapbook challenge and what lessons I learned with this layout

Hi Newbies, I'm here working on my 365 page layout challenge for 2019!  I will try to link all of the items used so you know what I used (and possibly where I bought them) just in case you decide you like any of it.

This week I decided to try something new...8 x 8 Layouts.  Now some of you might be saying how hard could that be.  Well, not so sure "harder" would be the word but never doing one before I made it "harder" in my head.  So lesson #1 for this blog would be...don't be afraid to try something you have never tried before.  That goes for anything in life...just go for it!  You never know how it will turn out or what you will learn from it or the experience you might get from it.

If you have been following my blogs you know that I usually do the 12 x 12 layouts (and use the ENTIRE space) and possibly throw in a hand made card or two just to get me out of my comfort zone.

These 8 x 8's for me were "hard" because I could only use 1 picture if I kept it at the 4x6, and very little embellishing.  I really wanted to do a baby album for my one and only grand-daughter and knew if I started at the 12 x 12 it would eventually have its own zip code so I said to myself, self, why not use an 8x8 album?  So I did, and eventually fell in L-O-V-E with doing 8x8's!

I was able to do an entire 20 page layout in less than a week, my goal was the weekend...and that was a big fat FAIL! Waah, waah, waah...but I didn't stop and I ended up finishing it in less than a week!

I knew I definitely wanted to do some mixed media on some of them since space was limited and I wanted to make sure it was as pretty as it could be and not just a picture on a page.  And by mixed media. I meant, it was mostly that awesome Nuvo Mousse I bought from Sparkle N Sprinkle!  I just can't get enough of it!

Instead of doing a blog with each one of the 8x8 layouts and because I didn't use a lot of embleshiments and mixed media, the blog would have been super short.  I decided to do one blog with the 20 layouts on them, featuring the items (and lessons if any) I used.

So here they are:

TITLE: HELLO

I also used used some of the mist and to create a "border" at the bottom. So here is LESSON #2 for these layouts; you can use more than just paper borders and washi tape to create a border for your page.

EPHEMERA round circle with flowers came from Vicki Boutin

Sweet Moment - Layout #24 of the 365 scrapbook challenge and what lessons I learned with this layout

Hey Newbies!

I'm here working on my 365 Page Layout Challenge.  I will try to list everything I used below and try to link up to where you can purchase them if you happen to like any of them.

Today I am working on a layout I call SWEET MOMENTS.  This one is especially close to my heart because it's a picture of me and my granddaughter reading "THE LITTLEST ANGEL", the exact book I saved that I use to read to her daddy when he was just about her age.

I'm not going to lie, this layout took me a while due to the colors I was mixing.  It looks like a simple layout but I wanted all of the colors to blend with the paper I used on the background so it was trial and error.

Which brings me to LESSON #1, if it doesn't work the first time or second time or third time, try, try again!  That particular blue/purple I was trying to pull from the lights of the tree was tricky.

I started out with the awesome periwinkle blue card stock I had.  I layered it with a 12x12 acetate sheet with words on it.  I saw it at Michael's and thought it would be different to use and I loved the way it looked.  It's from their Recollections collection called Signature Especial.

The wording was perfect and it really popped on top of the blue background.  I have never used this type of paper before...and here comes LESSON #2 for this layout.  Adhering acetate paper is tricky and I'm sure I didn't use the correct adhesive but when I stuck it down using my crafters tape you could see it.  Luckily, I was smart enough to just do a small amount on each of the 4 corners.  The top was an easy fix because of the border I put up there but the bottom, not so much.  So I had to cover the one corner with the trees...the other corner I couldn't find anything that looked right so, for this lesson..make sure you know your material before starting a layout.

After I glued down the paper I decided where I wanted my pictures and how I wanted to back them.   I found this awesome silvery, iridescent paper at Michael's.  It was beautiful and I wish I would have bought more of it.  I backed both of my photos with it and set them aside.  I wanted to pull a little red out of the Christmas tree in the photo so I used my Fancy Pants Glitter Cut Flurry of Hearts I had gotten from Scrapbooking-for-less.com It pulled out just enough of the red and the purple, so I just let enough peek through to add a splash of those colors.

I adhered the photos down, one straight on the background and the other with foam dots to give a dimensional look.  I added the word LOVE from Thickers Skyler collection.  The word "BELIEVE" I have had in my stash for a while and have no idea where I got it.  I also used the words "SWEET MOMENT" for the Title from Amy Tangerine.

The Title words are white foam so it took me a while to match the colors using Nuvo Mica Mists in  NEBULA BLUE and some of my Radiant Pearls in WILD ORCHID.  The colors matched perfectly so I did this with the angel border (that I made using white card stock and an embossing tool with an Angel playing a trumpet) at the top as well.  I also loved the color so much that I did the trees in the corner.  They came as plain wood veneer and this color worked out well.

I did some journaling on my computer and printed in out on clear labels and stuck it to the scrap of that awesome silver radiant paper I used to back the photos.  I also used it with one of my Spellbinders Nestabilities Scored and Pierced Squares Etched Die frames to make the cute frame at the top and added a sticker that says "YOU MAKE MY HEART SO HAPPY".

The remainder of that paper was punched into 2 circles where I put flairs on top to really make them pop.  I special ordered one of those flairs that says "OMA LOVE" (she calls me Oma).  I get most of my flairs from Scrappin Happy Studios who did this special order for me (I have a few more in different colors and different sayings).  So if you want to really make a special layout, don't hesitate to ask her for a special order!

I added a couple of more flairs, a black heart to pull some more of the black out, 2 small chipboard sticker hearts in red and a Christmas brad in red to pull some of the red out of the tree in the photo.
ITEMS USED:
  1. Epoxy flairs - OMA LOVE, CURRENTLY READING, TIME TO GET COZY AND READ Scrapping Happy Studio
  2. "Sweet Moments" foam writing - Amy Tangerine (love, love, love these.  They come white but you can color them any color you want to go with your layout!
  3. "This is my Story" puffy sticker - PinkFresh Studio
  4. Nuvo Mica Mist - NEBULA BLUE - Acherryontop.com
  5. "Remember This" sticker- American Craft Thickers- OneCanoetwo (Hazelwood collection)
  6. Silver iridescent paper - to back photo - Michael's
  7. Christmas Brad - Echo Park - ACherryontop.com
  8. Nestabilities Scored and Pierced Squares Etched Die - Scrapbook.com
  9. Acetate paper - Signature Especial - Michael's
  10. Fancy Pants flutter hearts - Scrapbooking-for-less.com
  11. "LOVE" - LOVE from Thickers Skyler collection

Shine On - Layout #25 of the 365 scrapbook challenge and what lessons I learned with this layout

Hey Newbies,

I'm here working on number 25 of my 365 Page Layout Challenge 2019 (and the lessons I learn).  I will try to link up to where you can purchase the items I used just in case you see anything you might like to try!

This  was another Challenge from the UK Facebook group I'm in.  The challenge was pretty specific: a first of something (baby, first time...) triangles, stencil and an unusual way of journaling.

I started off with a bright pink 12x12 card stock background.  I also have a pad with some unusual papers in them and this lime green with yellow splatters worked like a charm with this layout!  So I cut an inch from each side and adhered it to the pink 12 x 12 background.
I backed all of the photos with a thin piece of foam!  I've never done that before but I have a small stash of super thin foam sheets in these bright colors of yellow, green, pinks and blues.  So here is LESSON #1, think outside the box.  Who would have thought to use foam as a border around a photo?  I ended up doing a blue, green and yellow on the photos to pull the colors out and make them pop.  I used some foam dots on them to adhere to the background to give a bit of dimension.

For the use of triangles, I cut 3 triangles using some of the yellow thin foam and added some bright pink puffy stickers from My Mind's Eye PALM BEACH COLLECTION. I also used a rubber chips banner from PinkFresh Studio 's Dream On collection underneath one of the photos to add more triangles (be it upside down, they are still triangles😬) and some pink and gold triangles sticker from Bella Blvd.
I added some other puffy stickers from Bella Blvd (the LOVE circle, the multi colored flag and the SHINE ON, which I used for my TITLE).  And here comes LESSON #2 for this layout, you don't have to always use alphas for your title.  This puffy sticker worked great!  I've also used Stamps, Project Life Cards, cards from pads, you get the idea.  I added a glitter beach ball sticker from the SPLASH FUN collection, a chipboard BIG SMILES sticker from American Crafts, and a SO MUCH FUN sticker from Bella Blvd's MAKE YOUR MARK collection.  The OH HAPPY DAY clear sticker is from The Paper Studio AGEND 52 (Hoppy Lobby), the CUTE AS A BUTTON clear sticker is from The Paper Studio's Children Phrases sticker pack (Hobby Lobby) and the rainbow is from The Hip Kit Club ephemera pack.  The BE YOU (yellow and pink sticker) is from Dear Lizzy and finally the LIFE IS SWEET flair is from SCRAPPIN HAPPY STUDIO.

I then did my stenciling.  I have this stencil I purchased from Amazon with different words on it.  I chose the BE HAPPY because she is so happy in that pool at that moment!  I used embossing glue on my stencil and then used my Wendy Vecchi embossing powder in BUTTERCUP and heated with my heat gun.  I did this on a separate piece of scrap paper in green and then used foam dots to secure it to my background.

For the unusual journaling I decided to use the same thin foam sheets I had and wait for it...put it in my BIG SHOT die cutting machine with a square die that had and framed it!   I then took some clear stickers ran them through the printer and stuck them onto the yellow square.  I glued the square to my backing and it worked great!

Well there you have it! Number 25 of my 365 layout challenge for 2019.  thanks for following along on my journey of 365 scrapbook page challenge that I am doing, and reading about the lessons I'm learning along the way!  If you liked the blog please subscribe and follow me.

Santa Came - Layout #8 of the 365 scrapbook challenge and what lessons I learned with this layout

Hey Newbies,

I'm here working on number 8 of my 365 Page Layout Challenge 2019 (and the lessons I learned).  I will try to list everything I used below and try to link up to where you can purchase them if you happen to like any of them.

Today I'm working on a 12x12 Christmas layout.  It's an oldie but one of my favorite pictures of my son at Christmas, in his little feet-sy PJ's, so cute!

I started with a 12x12 Christmas paper from Lawn Fawn that I got from Acherryontop.com I know I have said it before but I have to say it again...all of these non-traditional Christmas colors that are out this year, I'm in love with!  Don't get me wrong, I love a good red and green Christmas but these colors this year are amazing!  Lawn Fawn had a pack that I fell in L-O-V-E with so I scooped them up.  This particular one has little tiny white snow flakes on a blue background.
I used the tear technique when backing my photo.  I like the look of it and use it on about half of my layouts that I do.  I had some scrapes left over from a previous layout using these papers and chose 2 more of Lawn Fawn's Christmas papers in those awesome non-traditional colors. I also used a piece left over and put it down about a 1/4 into my background just to give some more color to it.

I had these paper silver glitter snowflakes in my stash and decided to use a few of them.    The trees are made from a die that I got at Hobby Lobby using my Big Shot.  I used parchment paper (cutting it with the same die) and overlaid it to the top of the Christmas trees.

So, here is LESSON 1 for this layout.  Using parchment paper is cheap and looks kinda cool I think, but using adhesives on it is a bit tricky so I ended up using my Sharpie permanent marker in GOLD METALLIC to make "ornaments" on the tree to cover the adhesive up.  Easy, peasy....

I added some Echo Park sticky brads to the layout and I fussy cut a reindeer and a penguin from a Christmas note pad I had laying around the house and used my X-yron sticker maker to make them into stickers.  The colors work and they are Christmas characters🤗  Which brings us to LESSON #2 for this layout, just because it isn't "meant" for scrapbooking or bought in the scrapbooking isle doesn't mean you can't use it for scrapbooking!

I wanted to break up the color in that strip I laid down with the colored snowflakes so I added some tear drop shaped plastic rhinestones.  Here comes LESSON #3, after painstakingly glueing each and every one of those down, I didn't really like it...but I didn't hate it.  Since it was almost the last thing I did and I didn't absolutely hate it, I lived with it and didn't trash the entire layout.  So, if you DON'T ABSOLUTELY hate it, keep it, because this is not a cheap hobby!

Lastly, I used a cool script font from PinkFresh Studio to do the Title - SANTA CAME - (although it's hard to read the single letters and you almost have to guess at them, but once they are together they look amazing)!  I believe I picked those up from Michaels.

Well, there you have it...number 8 of my 365 layout challenge for 2019.  Thanks for following along on my journey of 365 scrapbook page challenge that I am doing, and reading about the lessons I'm learning along the way!  Please subscribe if you like this post and to see if I make it to number 3-6-5 by the end of this year!

Moments Worth Remembering - Layout #22 of the 365 scrapbook challenge and what lessons I learned with this layout

Hey Newbies,
I'm here working on number 22 of my 365 Page Layout Challenge 2019 (and the lessons I learned).  I will try to list everything I used below and try to link up to where you can purchase them if you happen to like any of them.

Today I'm doing one of my challenges that I found on a FB group from the UK (yeap, still counting it as part of my challenges.)😬  This one was very specific about what was required.  It required mixed media, BIG stencil work and stitching, which I've never done😱...which was pretty cool because learning new stuff is awesome!

I started off with a heavy red card stock for the background.  I took some white 12x12 card stock, cut it down by an inch on each side and used white gesso on it to do some mixed media work.  After it dried, I did the tear technique at the top before starting the mixed media work.

I used one of my favorite heart stencils and used glass bead gel, it's messy and takes a bit to get the technique down but I do love it.  I used my heat gun to try and dry it but had to let it set to fully dry...so this layout took a while to do.

After the gel dried I made a heart stencil (out of a cardboard) and stenciled the big heart using my ink blending tool by Tim Holtz and blended the ink around the stencil using Stamp Craft Ink in "RED" I bought at Michaels.  I also used smaller heart stencils in the middle of the larger heart using red acrylic paint and the same blending tool.

I didn't want to leave the paper white, I'm not a huge fan of a lot of white space in my layouts.  I do them every so often when I "lift" an amazing layout  I see on IG.  So I took my blending tool and blended some more of the acrylic paint all around, making sure I don't mess with the glass beads, those are super delicate so I used Distressed spray stain in ABANDONED CORAL on them.

I used my heart punched to punch out some hearts in the same red card stock I used for the background and one out of gold foil paper (I purchased from Michaels, it goes on sale a lot so wait for it).   I backed the one red heart at the top with the gold heart and did my journaling.  I did the stitching on the single heart at the bottom.  Not bad for my first time and no sewing machine!

The photos I backed with black card stock and some of the gold foil paper.  I wanted to pull some of the black out of his shirt and add some other color other than the reds because it was starting to look a bit...red🤷🏻‍♀️.  I used foam backing for the pictures to give some dimension to them and also it's hard for anything to stick to the glass beading so I had to use the foam.

I added the "LOVE" sticker in between the photos to pull more of the black out.  That was from a very old stash and I have no idea where I got those words because I love them!  It's got kind of a rough texture to it...If you guys find them anywhere please leave a comment, I would love to buy some more of those!

I then used the words NEW, ARRIVAL, HELLO, CUTE, on top of the red hearts to pull more of the gold color out and seriously, how cute is this new arrival anyways!  These are so awesome and I WILL be purchasing more of them!  They are Gold Foam Letters from Thickers Goldie (151) collection!
I sprayed the entire page with Perfect Pearls Mist from Ranger in PERFECT COPPER.  It is one of my favorite colors!!!!

Finally, I used the EACH CHILD IS UNIQUE... and MOMENTS WORTH REMEMBERING from The paper Studio - Children Phrases I purchased from Michaels.

Well, there you have it...number 21 of my 365 layout challenge for 2019.  I tried to link up what I used in case you wanted to try any of them.  Thanks for following along on my journey of 365 scrapbook page challenge that I am doing, and reading about the lessons I'm learning along the way!  Please leave a comment below on what you liked about the layout and if you want to follow me on my 365 challenge please subscribe!

It's Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas - Layout #16 of the 365 scrapbook challenge and what lessons I learned with this layout

Hey Newbies,

I'm here working on number 16 of my 365 Page Layout Challenge 2019 (and the lessons I learned).  I will try to list everything I used below and try to link up to where you can purchase them if you happen to like any of them.

This was a super simple layout that I didn't really use a lot but it still turned out nice.  This is part of my HOT BUYS stash I purchased from Michael's.  These are really great buys and the papers are amazing and they do them either every quarter or 6 months so make sure you look for them!

I started this 12 x 12 layout with a traditional Christmas red in a heavy card stock.  I then went into the Christmas Hot Buys pad I had gotten last week and it was all gold, black and silvers.  All of the pages are so beautiful!.  I fussy cut the center of one that had a Christmas hat in the center of the page that said "IT'S BEGINNING TO LOOK A LOT LIKE CHRISTMAS"...and here comes LESSON 1; make sure you absolutely like the way it looks before glueing it down because there is no going back from that.  I'm thinking I could have fussy cut a little bit more of the words out🤦🏻‍♀️

This particular pad had a couple of pages of borders that I loved!  So I used 2 on the top and then I fussy cut the bows out from another border and used my awesome Fineline glue applicator to apply them to the page.  If you don't have one, I highly suggest getting one, it gets in the hard to reach, small pieces you are trying to get glued down...Amazon is where I purchased mine.

I punched out the photos with my 2.5" and 3" circle punch and backed them with some plain black paper and added gold dots with my shinny gold Sharpie just to give them a little pop.

The gold Christmas presents was a stamp I got from my Joann's haul!  The set had 9 little clear Christmas stamps and was perfect for this.  I used the same gold Sharpie and ran it across the stamp to give it the same gold shinny color as the dots on the photo backing.

Lastly, I used my Big Shot and a Christmas tree die and cut out parchment paper.  I use this technique when I want to either cover up journaling when I want to hide it or to use over a bright paper that I want to lighten up a bit.  It works great and is cheap!  I toped the tree with a sticky brad from Echo Park Collection

HoHoHo - Layout #15 of the 365 scrapbook challenge and what lessons I learned with this layout

Hey Newbies,

I'm here working on number 15 of my 365 Page Layout Challenge 2019 (and the lessons I learned).  I will try to list everything I used below and try to link up to where you can purchase them if you happen to like any of them.

This layout I'm not gonna lie...I love.  Not just because of the pictures (he was so darn cute in his little man robe), but I was super excited about using non-traditional Christmas colors.  What I mean by that is not the usual green and red, green and red.  I have been seeing all of these layouts on IG with these beautiful colors for Christmas and I was hooked!  I ordered a small pack of 12 x 12 paper from Lawn Fawn and when it arrived I was very excited to do a layout!

I recently popped into Joann's and wouldn't you know it they had a 90% off all of their Christmas stuff!  I didn't have much in my stash on Christmas so when I saw all of this stuff I went crazy...but hey it was .99 cent!  Ok, not all of it was .99 most of it was .19 cents!  It was crazy!  This Hohoho was one of the wood veneers but I knew I could paint it so in the basket it went (with a ton of ribbon, and other wood veneer stuff and stickers, I mean I am set for the next 10 Christmas's on ribbon, just sayin)!

After going through the Lawn Fawn pack of printed papers and my stash that I got from Joann's and my new Christmas tree die cuts I purchased from Hobby Lobby, and I knew exactly what I wanted to use and how I wanted it to look.

I started the layout with one of the Lawn Fawn printed papers (this is heavy card stock paper) that had snow flakes printed on it.  The photos I choose had this blue in it that was begging to be pulled out, so I had some scrap pieces left over from another Christmas layout I did (same paper collection) that had this blue in it.

I did the tear technique on one side and left some straight edges on the other just to mix it up.  The blues really pulled the colors out of the photo well.  I also backed the phot with another couple of left over scrapes from the same collection that also had this blue in it.  I didn't quite like the reds that were pulling from it so I used some white gesso and dabbed it on (a technique I learned from Missy Whidden's YOUTUBE channel, I have learned so much from her and her layouts are AMAZING!) .  It was enough to lighten the red to match the pinkish color I used for the Title and trees.

After adhering the photos to the background I die cut the trees using my Big Shot machine and glued them down.  I had a few chipboard stickers from Echo Park that I added (like that cute polar bear in the bottom right corner) and a few in the center of some of the colored snow flakes on the backing.  I had this puffy sticker snowman by Creatology from the Joann's haul that I used as well.

Here comes LESSON #1 for this layout; just because it is not "meant" for scrapbooking doesn't mean you can't use it for a layout.  The reindeer down by the Christmas tree at the bottom is a cut out from a note pad I had laying around.  I ran it through my X-yron sticker maker and made it into a sticker!  It went perfectly and it was FREE!

The Title I painted using Shimmerz Paints - Creameez in GREAT FRUIT, I mean the colors were perfect and pulled the colors of those trees so well!

Lastly, I journaled on the trees in a silver glitter pen! All in all, I love it.  Leave me a comment below and let me know what you think about all of the non-traditional colors being used this year.

Yeah I know I'm Trouble- Layout #12 of the 365 scrapbook challenge and what lessons I learned with this layout

Hey Newbies,

I'm here working on number 12 of my 365 Page Layout Challenge 2019.  I will try to list everything I used below and try to link up to where you can purchase them if you happen to like any of them.

Today I chose to do a pocket layout.  I don't do many of these and actually discovered them by mistake.  I picked up a box of 12 x 12 layout protectors that were on clearance at Walmart (SCORE!) or at least I thought it was a score...AND HERE COMES LESSON #1; always READ the fine print, or at least look at the picture on the box!🤦🏻‍♀️  I didn't discover they were pocket protectors until I got them home and who wants to run back to Walmart for under a $10 return?

I actually had to YOUTUBE how to use these and found a lot of layouts.  The one I liked the most was on Scrapbook.com (if you haven't been to their website lately they have a TON of FREE how to videos that are amazing!

I do like using these when I have multiple photo layouts, who am I kidding, 99.9% of my layouts are multiple photo layouts, but I still find using these brings a little bit of difference to your album so I mix a few in just to mix it up.

This one is of my son when he was about 3.  He was doing these cute faces and even back then I always had a camera snapping photos.

These pocket layouts are pretty easy and if you are brand new to scrapbooking it might be a good place to start.  But keep in mind, it's not just to stick a photo in and you are done.  Make it your own, get creative, make it a layout!

I added an Epoxy flair from my favorite Flair girl from Scrappin Happy Studios.  I backed my photos before putting them in with card stock and Becky Higgins Project Life cards.  With a "Hello" die cut, a mom, a heart and a few other stickers.  I also used my foam rubber alpha stamps  from Joann's to stamp out the words "LOOK AT ME".

On the Right side, the pockets are vertical so I took a couple of Project Life cards and backed them with a red card stock scrap from my stash to pull the red color in his pants and make the photo pop a little more. The little camera on those cards was perfect!

I added the chipboard ribbon "CHERRISH THE LITTLE THINGS" and I stamped 1993 (the year I took the photo) and added the "HI" at the bottom of the card.  The one below it, I stuck on a clear "YEAH I KNOW I'M TROUBLE..." sticker and a black sticker with sparkles on it that says "CUTE".

This layout took me less than a half hour to put together once I went through my stash and found what I wanted to use.
