Keep Cool Cut File Layout featuring Scrappin Happy Epoxy Flairs and Word Phrases

Hi guys, I'm here doing a layout using the newest release of Scrappin happy Studio Flairs  and her new awesome Cardstock words!

I'm also excited to be using a cut file (or cardstock cuts as they call them) from (Not) Just For Boys Kit Club!  It's a cool pair of sunglasses with the words KEEP COOL. When I saw this one I just had to have it!

Here's what I started out with.  I snapped a photo of me and my dog Tigger, being silly with these sunglasses so you know I just knew I had to use that cut file with this layout.  I was also excited to use my new paper pads I just got from Michaels as a HOT BUY.  Guys, if you don't know about Michael's Hot Buys you are missing out! Make sure you subscribe to their emails so you know when they are having their Hot Buys sales. I also scored a tropical paradise paper pad that was on clearance for $4.97! I choose to use these colors because well, the sunglasses are all kinds of these awesome colors and, it just so happens that it was a Color Pallet Challenge on our Facebook group and these were the exact colors!

I backed the sunglasses with part of a flamingo on both sides, I used a gorgeous aqua-green for the words KEEPIN' (but decided to back the apostrophe with a bright yellow so it pops). Then I backed the word COOL with a deep purple to pull some of that color from the actual sunglasses we had on.  The circles in the middle of the two "O", I backed with a shinny gold paper just to make it pop! I used foam adhesive to give it a bit of dimension on the page.

I had so many gorgeous papers in that Craft Smart paper pad (called Hot Tropic) that I almost couldn't decide which do use as the base.  So I decide to use a pattern paper with different shades of pinks and corals but I wanted to break it up and pull some of that deep purple out again. So I tore a page out of one of the HOT BUY pads, used the tear technique and put it on one side. I used that purple side to place my photo (which I backed with that shiny gold paper) and I did some paper tearing of each solid color that I had in the Color Challenge.  I added one of the Word Phrases along with two epoxy flairs from Scrappin Happy Studio.

🔛

I had some empty space on the purple side so I decide to do something different.  I had all of the scraps left over from "side backing" my photo that I decided to put them into little clusters and adhere them with a flower brad in the middle.

The top of the layout is a strip I cut from one of the pages from the paper pad and I fussy cut the bottom for the little scallops.  The bottom part of the layout is where I cut almost all of the rest of the strips from that page and decided to destress the edges of all of them.  The pineapples I backed with foam adhesive for some more dimension and then lined the rest one on top of the other.

Here is the finished layout...what do you think?

Featuring Scrappin Happy Studio "Covid" Epoxy Flairs

Hi guys,  I'm here putting together this cute layout featuring Scrappin Happy Studio Epoxy Flairs!

Showing off a Collection of her Covid-19 Flairs which were perfect for this layout, even though it wasn't a Covid-19 Layout!

Ok, first I'm going to say I love the versatility of her flairs! Even though she specifically made these for the Covid-19, I purchased them for this specific layout which has nothing to do with Covid-19.  A lot of her flairs you can mix and match to fit into layouts that may not be specifically for what she designed them for but works perfect for what you are laying out!

I started as I normally do with a ton of stuff pulled.  I should rename my site 'The Messy Scrapper' because I pull a LOT of stuff for my layouts!  I'm big on color and that's how I plan out my layouts. I choose a photo and pic a color or two and then start pulling from my stash anything that has those colors.  I also like to keep the theme the same (although I will go slightly off of theme if it really matches the colors and makes it pop)! I can tell you I always pull more than I use...you just never know what's going to work😀

I wanted to make this a multi-photo layout because the pics told the story.  I mounted each smaller picture to 2 separate papers (once card stock and one from a paper pad) and used the same papers for the 4x6 picture as well. I aligned the 3 smaller pictures like a photo strip and placed the larger photo to the right.

The title of Be Brave was perfect because the look on her mom's face was priceless! I added a journaling card that said "TOTAL BUMMER" from a back I got in a Traveling Box over on our FB group (feel free to join so you don't miss out on the fun)!  Those cards are snarky and I love them! They came in 2 different sizes and this one fit perfectly. I added some stickers, a wood veneer pencil and one of the epoxy flairs from Scrappin Happy Studio.  I adhered it at an angle and then added a flag/banner "FOR THE RECORD" to the last small photo and added the THERMOMETER flair at the bottom corner.  I added a cute chipboard sticker flower and the cut file (I had backed several months ago to go with another layout but it didn't work out so I kept it and bam! It worked amazingly well for this layout)!

I got these cute tiny stickers from our Traveling Box (really, these boxes are amazing so head over to our
FB page and sign up), and used them for a second mini title.  I used the check circle woodveener on the bottom of the photo along with a pencil sticker I backed with foam adhisive for some dimension.  At the top of the 4x6 photo I added a sticker (backing it with foam tape) FROM THE DESK OF: Doodles, MD.  I added another epoxy flair in the center on a square sticker.

Well there you have it, how I used Covid-19 flairs for a totally different layout. I hope you enjoyed this layout as much as I enjoyed creating it!  Thanks for stopping by and reading all about my BE BRAVE layout and see below for some of the items I used to put this together.

Bashing my stash!

I dug deep into my stash to find this gorgeous, beach vibe paper I almost forgot about.  Most of you know that I got into scrapbooking through a neighbor (who turned out to be a really great friend) back in 2008.  We did a couple of albums together and then I ended up moving and life got in the way.  I stopped scrapbooking after that year and didn't get back into it until 2018!

So needless to say, when I tell you this is old paper...it is!  I absolutely love the colors in this paper...they just pop and scream summer vibes!

I started off with this amazing aqua/turquoise (ish) bright blue.  I took the beach vibe paper and cut about 1" off the sides and did the tear technique and separated the 2 pieces (tearing out a big gap in the center to make sure that blue really popped)!  I backed the photo with some scrapes from a multi colored pink paper leaving just enough showing through to give that pink a little pop.

Then I grabbed my stash and started picking the pieces I wanted to go on this layout.  I'm not sure if you are like me but I go through ALL of my stuff and grab what I THINK may look good on a particular layout.  Then once I start with the paper and the photo I start going through what I pulled from my stash all over again to see what actually works.  This makes it so difficult to do YT videos😱...I keep watching other scrappers do YT videos and wonder how they just know what to use from one pick🤷🏻‍♀️

I pulled a lot from American Crafts (3 different collections I will list below) along with 2 flairs from Scrappin Happy Studio and some cute sayings and hearts from Me & My Big Ideas.  The blue heart is actually the background peaking through after I punched the paper with my Heart punch.

Well, there you have it.  This layout came together quick for me.  It's a simple layout that looks like I spent a lot of time doing.  The best layouts aren't always the once that take hours or days like some of my mixed media ones do.

Collections I used:
Scrappin Happy Studio - Epoxy flairs - Beach Vibes Collection
Scrappin Happy Studio - Epoxy flairs - Be Strong Collection
American Crafts - Thickers - Adventure Collection
American Crafts - Thickers - Colorful Collection
American Crafts - Thickers - Summer Lights Collection
Me & My Big Ideas - Mambi Chips - I love us Collection
Thanks for coming along on this blog.  Leave comments below and let me know what you like best about it.  Come follow me on IG (link on blog), and head over to Scrappin Happy Studio to see her newest collection of handmade epoxy flairs...she does a new collection every 2 weeks!

Water color background and New Mermaid Flairs!

Hey guys, I wanted to share a layout I did using Scrappin Happy Studio's new Mermaid Flairs!  These are so cute and the colors are amazing!  Jenny (the owner of the shop) makes all of her flairs by hand and does special orders so if you are working on a layout or a card and want that extra pop or personalization for that special someone...just ask and she would be happy to do it!

Be sure to check out her site on Black Friday 2019 for amazing 50% OFF her ENTIRE store including her newest collections!
↓↓↓↓↓↓↓↓↓↓↓↓↓↓↓↓↓↓↓↓↓↓↓↓↓↓↓↓↓↓↓↓↓↓↓↓↓↓↓↓↓

Now, on to the layout!  I started with some Oxide inks, using some water and the paint brush technique to bring this water color background to life.  I'm not going to lie, I've tried this several times and most of them turned out to be disasters! I really had to take my time and really work with the water and colors to get the look I was going for.

After using clear Gesso on my white card stock paper and let completely dry, I dabbed the inks on to wax paper, - a cheap trick of mine that I use for mixed media stuff and just regular glueing down stuff.  Dollar store score! The clean up is easy and you can use one piece several times depending on how messy you are!  I applied the ink to the wax paper (one color at a time) I spritz with water and started dipping my paint brush and adding small amounts of both water and paint to the paper.  Once I got one color the way I wanted it I moved on to the other colors.  Using this technique you have to be careful not to move the paper around too much or you will get a drip effect which isn't what I was going for.

I ended up stamping the background with a "fishing net" using Pearl White powder and Versacolor White Pigment ink, it's very faint but in the right light you can see it and it looks amazing.  I pulled all of the ephemera items I wanted to use, added some wood veneer sea life, some mermaid stickers (dollar store score) and some cut aparts from one of my pages in a paper pad and stamped and fussy cut some little mermaids.  Added my picture (backing it with velum paper that I inked in a sea foam blue and added some Nuvo drops and making sure I left room at the bottom for journaling and BAM! The finished layout!

Reading is an Adventure - featuring Color Cast products

Hi guys, I'm here working on my next layout with an amazing cut file of a book which I couldn't wait to get to go with my Color Cast Design's super thin wood veneers! I also had some cute flairs from Scrappin Happy Studio that were made for this layout.

I started this layout using a 12x12 blush color card stock. I had just gotten a cut file of a book and decided to use it for this layout.   I backed it with card stock that had words on it to give it that book feel.  I dug into my Color Cast design stash and pulled out my wood veneers. They have this Book Collection and it was perfect!  These veneers are super thin, so no bulkiness; they have a sticky back to them so easy to peel and stick to your layout and they are in a perfect size and shape for any layout!

After picking through the ones I wanted to use, I moved on to picking the flairs from the Book Collection at Scrappin Happy Studio.  Thses were perfect and also on the thin side (not like the medal buttons that bulk up your layouts). I grabbed a few more embellishments and used my Sizzix Die Cut machine to cut the alphas out.  These alphas are perfect size for any layout (purchased from Amazon).

I then backed my photo with 2 different color card stock, added some foam adhesive to some of the embellishments and then stamped the stitching on the side.  Look, I couldn't sew a button on an ice cream cone so these Bo Bunny stitching stamps are the next best thing!

So there you have it!  A quick and super cute layout of my granddaughter reading her book (even if it is upside down🤷🏻‍♀️).

Doodle's 1st baby album- Layouts #27-46 of the 365 scrapbook challenge and what lessons I learned with this layout

Hi Newbies, I'm here working on my 365 page layout challenge for 2019!  I will try to link all of the items used so you know what I used (and possibly where I bought them) just in case you decide you like any of it.

This week I decided to try something new...8 x 8 Layouts.  Now some of you might be saying how hard could that be.  Well, not so sure "harder" would be the word but never doing one before I made it "harder" in my head.  So lesson #1 for this blog would be...don't be afraid to try something you have never tried before.  That goes for anything in life...just go for it!  You never know how it will turn out or what you will learn from it or the experience you might get from it.

If you have been following my blogs you know that I usually do the 12 x 12 layouts (and use the ENTIRE space) and possibly throw in a hand made card or two just to get me out of my comfort zone.

These 8 x 8's for me were "hard" because I could only use 1 picture if I kept it at the 4x6, and very little embellishing.  I really wanted to do a baby album for my one and only grand-daughter and knew if I started at the 12 x 12 it would eventually have its own zip code so I said to myself, self, why not use an 8x8 album?  So I did, and eventually fell in L-O-V-E with doing 8x8's!

I was able to do an entire 20 page layout in less than a week, my goal was the weekend...and that was a big fat FAIL! Waah, waah, waah...but I didn't stop and I ended up finishing it in less than a week!

I knew I definitely wanted to do some mixed media on some of them since space was limited and I wanted to make sure it was as pretty as it could be and not just a picture on a page.  And by mixed media. I meant, it was mostly that awesome Nuvo Mousse I bought from Sparkle N Sprinkle!  I just can't get enough of it!

Instead of doing a blog with each one of the 8x8 layouts and because I didn't use a lot of embleshiments and mixed media, the blog would have been super short.  I decided to do one blog with the 20 layouts on them, featuring the items (and lessons if any) I used.

So here they are:

TITLE: HELLO
Title: Jillibean Soup

BUTTERFLIES were done using a punch & iridescent paper from Michael's

So here is LESSON #2 for these layouts; you can use more than just paper borders and washi tape to create a border for your page.

EPHEMERA round circle with flowers came from Vicki Boutin

It's the Little Thinks in Life - Layout #26 of the 365 scrapbook challenge and what lessons I learned with this layout

Hey Newbies,

I'm here working on number 26 of my 35 Page Layout Challenge 2019 (and the lessons I learn).  I will try to link up to where you can purchase the items I used just in case you see anything you might like to try!

Today I'm working on "IT'S THE LITTLE THINGS IN LIFE".  This one I didn't use many embellishments.  Some times I use a tone and some times I hardly use any at all.  It depends on which way the layout starts going (or the wind is blowing, which ever).  I mean I can pull a LOT of stuff from my drawers and only end up using a few things like I did with this one.  I wanted the paper to do all of the talking with this layout!

I started out using a pad from the HOT BUYS from Michael's.  HOT BUYS are awesome and they have them every quarter it seems.  You can get beautiful pads for $5.99, regularly $19.99!  I kick myself because this one I L-O-V-E and I only bought one.  I find that going back during another HOT BUY, you don't find the same pads 😒.  So we will use this as LESSON #1, look through those HOT BUY pads you like and take a good look.  Shop around and then re-look.  If you really like it...BUY MORE THAN ONE!

Ok, moving on...I started with one of the 12x12 sheets that has this amazing floral print at the bottom.  Now, for me to say amazing and floral in the same sentence you have to know it is gorgeous because I'm really not a flowery type of girl.  I see all these amazing flowery layouts on IG but I just can't seem to get excited about doing one.  Maybe one day I will but not today.

This one was the perfect color, almost a paper bag brown with white flowers and stems at the bottom that was just enough to make it gorgeous!  There was another page in the pad that is a blueish grey that I had left over from another layout I did.  I did the tear technique (making sure I left it longer at the bottom so it peaked out.  I took another piece of scrap paper in yellow, and cut it at an angle and glued it to the top of it.

This pad also had 2 pages of cards (think, project life type cards) in the same hues as the paper.  I used one that had gold flakes in it to layer on top of the yellow card stock and then another I trimmed to layer on top of that one and used it as my Title.  So here is LESSON #2 for this layout, you don't always have to use alphas as your TITLE.  Here I am using a card that already had the saying I wanted.  You can use a sticker, project life card, a stamp...get creative!

I decided to do some gold splatters to bring out some of the gold in that first card.  I used Shimmerz VIBEZ in GLORIOUS DAY.  It really matched up well and who doesn't love a good shimmer!

I cut 3 flags in the blue/grey and one in yellow and adhered them under the 1st layer.  I added 2 more smaller flags in a white/grey color for some pop and to bring in the white from those flowers below.

I have this really awesome butterfly bunch so I punched out some butterflies trying to get some of the gold flakes from the paper in order to bring in some more of the gold accent.  I placed them where I wanted them and used tacky glue to glue them down.  They give a 3 dimensional look to the page that I liked.

I added a wood sticker that says Happy Days Are Here (that's an old piece from my stash) and then added a gold foil flag and stamped TODAY on it and placed it by the photo.  On the photo itself, I backed it with the same papers I used on the other side, leaving a little over hang at the bottom using the tear technique again and added the LIFE IS SHORT, LIVE IT  chipboard sticker from American Crafts - Thickers line, Escape The Ordinary by Vickie Boutin and added 2 butterflies.

Above the photo I added another card from the pad and backed it with a gold foil card and a lighter card on the other side to bring out those lighter colors.

I felt like it needed a little something else so I added stamped dots in different sizes.  Lastly, I added a flair from Scrappin Happy Studios that says "US".

Well, there you have it...number 26 of my 365 layout challenge for 2019.  Thanks for following along on my journey of 365 scrapbook page challenge that I am doing, and reading about the lessons I'm learning along the way!

Please leave a comment below and let me know what you think about this these colors.  If you liked this blog, please subscribe and follow me on my 3-6-5 journey to see if I am able to complete it!

Epoxy Flairs...what are they?

Hey Newbies,
Today I wanted to talk about Epoxy Flairs.  Being a Newbie myself, I've never heard this term so I didn't know what they were.  After delving into this awesome world of scrapbooking and social media (IG is my best friend lately) and finding all kinds of experts and people who sell, make and design scrapbooking goodies I found Scrappin Happy Studios!

Jenny is the Owner, creator, designer and greatness behind Scrappin Happy Studios!  I fell head over heals for her Epoxy Flairs.  So what is a Flair?  It's an embellishment that you add to your layouts.  They have sayings, and designs, and words and coffee and hearts and colors or black and white and more!  If you can think of it she can do it!  Her designs are AMAZING and cute and funny and the colors😱.

These flairs can be used on any type of layout (think, cards, 12x12, Project Life, smaller albums).  They are super thin so it doesn't add a lot of bulk to your layouts like some of the embellishments do.

I think I've used her stuff on about 99% of my layouts!  She is so amazing that she even does SPECIAL ORDERS😎  Check these out...my grand daughter calls me Oma, so I had her make these especially for those layouts that I do with my grand daughter in them!

It just so happens that Scrappin Happy Studio's is having a HUGE S-A-L-E starting Friday (2/1/2019).  If you are itching to try flairs on your layouts (and who wouldn't) go check out her Etsy Shop and look at ALL that she has to offer and shop away because this is a very special SALE...her Birthday and she is celebrating it with us!

Well, there you have it...Epoxy Flairs and what they are used for.  To see more of my layouts using her flairs scroll down to view my previous posts.

Lessons on Layouts - Going from stash to Sas!

Hi there Newbies!  Today I wanted to blog about creating layouts using your stash (and...we are already at lesson 1). Lesson 1 being, when buying a kit, from say The Hip Kit Club, you get so excited when they arrive (or at least I do).   I mean the pages and embellishments match up so perfectly, you want to see it all!  So you take it all out of the package and  if that's what you want to do to see all of the goodies in their awesomeness of match-e-ness (here is where the lesson comes in) go for it!  Just make sure it's the only thing on your table when you do or, like me, you will be putting it ALL away after ogling it and then it will hit you.  The KIT you just purchased that matched so perfectly together is now all in separate bins/boxes/drawers and you have no idea what was what!  Yes, that is what I did with my very first Kit, key word being...KIT🤦🏻‍♀️

So let's move on from lesson one, shall we?  I have this beautiful grand daughter and she has my heart!  I have done a couple of layouts with her and want to share this one.  When I saw this picture that my daughter-in-law took I just knew right then in there I would be scraping it!  My mind started going crazy with ideas.
So now that I have this new stash (since I broke my one and only kit up, it's all stash). I went through every drawer, paper boxes, sequence bins, inks and stencils!  I usually only have a few things that a pull but everything I touched went with the colors in my head that I wanted to do for this layout.  The more I pulled the more that came out!  So I started with this huge pile of stickers, washi tape, embellishments, phrases, flairs...you name it I had it on the table!

I knew I wanted to use a stencil heart on this layout (and here comes lesson number 2); lesson 2 being, when buying stencils, stamps, inks and even paper...DON'T BE A CHEAP AS*!

I saw a YouTube video with Heatherscraftylife using this "Puffy Heart Stencil" from PinkandMain - side note:  I love her layouts! I have learned so much from her, she is definitely one of the scrapping ladies you need to be following - especially on YouTube if you want to learn a few things.

I went on line and saw the price of their heart stencil (which really wasn't that much) but had to order some stuff from Amazon and while on Amazon I saw an entire set of stencils including a similar heart stencil for half the price...an ENTIRE set! So I said to myself, self, this is an amazing deal go for it.  Well...that amazing deal turned out to be crap!  The stencils were cheap, one has already torn and trust me, the heart one was NOT the same!  Soooo, I went back and bought the PinkandMain heart stencil.  It worked beautifully!  The difference was night and day (although, I am a Newbie to using stencils...so it took me a couple of times to get it down...ok, a few times, stenciling is tricky ya'll).

On this particular layout I started out with stenciling going across the page, white space in the middle and then a row at the bottom.  It started out beautifully but went South pretty quick!  I thought I would add some heat embossing and stamped the embossing stamp all over the page (not using the stencil) which is NOT the way to emboss hearts people...it was a big fat mess (and kinda comical after I thought about it).  So I trashed it and started again (I told ya'll stenciling was tricky).

Starting from scratch, I decided to do a row of hearts diagonally this time, leaving white space in the middle and then a small diagonal row at the bottom.  I also did some going in a different direction at the top corner because that's just how I am.  That's the way a lot of layouts go, you have something in mind, start out and it ends up a little (or a lot) different than what you pictured it in your head.  But it ends up looking amazing!

After I had my background done I started pulling from my stash pile (or mountain of stash).  I knew I wanted to keep it mostly pink (because that jacket tho😱) and wanted a little bit of black to pull some of the color of her pants and boots but wanted a little color in it as well.

I started by backing the photo with some Pink Paislee 6 x 6 pad called TURN THE PAGE.  I found a pink background and a gorgeous flower pattern that had a bit of light teal in it.  I had so many embellishments with that color I knew it would be perfect!

I used some Dear Lizzy (61) Accent and Phrases stickers, the camera, heart and "captured" flairs are all from Scrappin Happy Studios (her Etsy shop is amazing)!  I had some clear stickers from The Paper Studio called CHILDREN PHRASES.  I love these phrases and used them on other layouts but  I didn't like the look of it on the page.  You could still see the clear square edges of the sticker so I had some cute pink polkadot washi tape in my stash that was see-through enough to cover up the sticker and still see it!

The title I fell in love with!  Not only was it perfect for this picture, I love the script of it and...it's kind of rubbery.  I've never come across it before but will be ordering more of it!  It's from American Crafters Thickers "SKYLER" pack.

I added a lot of other stickers and chipboards and other stuff I will list below in case you are interested in any of them.  I finished it up with some sequence from Ink Road Stamps (I love Lara's stamps!  She is always working on new lines and her stamps are very well made and worth the price - see lesson 2 above if you are thinking differently).

I hope you enjoyed seeing this layout and the lessons I learned from it.  For more tips, tricks and challenges come over to our facebook group (follow the link and ask to join, we keep it private because a lot of us are working on layouts as gifts and don't want the friends and family who follow us on FB to see them before we give them) or join us on IG to catch up!  And if you like the blog please follow me!
